Network Marketing Success- The How to MLM Guide
With 97% of Network Marketers failing to achieve the promised success of the 4 year plan, how can you differentiate yourself and become one of the 3% club? Every company promises the best products, a ground floor opportunity, the most levels of compensation or some hook that makes them better than their competition. So how do you decide who to get involved with?
Today more than ever we are seeing the emergence of an unprecedented amount of network marketing companies launching on the world stage. They all promise the “holy grail” to the prospective home business owner and every year tens of thousands of people get involved hoping to finally have the success they’ve always dreamed of. To understand why most people fail, we first need to look at some key points to success in Network Marketing and some of the psychology behind why people do what they do and what drives them to make decisions. Let’s step into the shoes of the new recruit and see if we can’t find some of the answers together.
The emotional decision
Most of you have probably had the experience of being too excited to sleep. As human beings it is in our nature to want bigger and better things for ourselves and our family’s future. As we struggle from day to day, week to week, pay check to pay check we are filled with a growing frustration. Something isn’t working. There must be something better out there. Then out of the blue, with such a coincidence as to feel ordained, we find ourselves in front of some slick salesman, in a group of initiates being presented with an opportunity that simply “looks too good to be true”. Naturally you are skeptical, and certainly there are a large percentage of people who will walk away, afraid that it might be true, afraid of what it might mean to them if it is or could be true. People who are not yet ready to have such idea’s as success thrust upon them. Not us though, we want to believe, and after acquiring a few more pieces of information necessary to facilitate our decision, we’re in!
At this stage we are taken back to a child like state, we become able to dream again. We start to think “Maybe I can have what for so long I didn’t dare hope for”. It’s in this state of excitement that most people start off their journey into home business ownership, and this is the first reason that they fail. A rational decision maker requires on average 7 pieces of information to make a decision. In the heightened state of excitement described above, most people will settle for 1 or 2. While this is great for conversion, most often this excitement fades leaving a newly minted rep without enthusiasm and none of the tools required for building his business.
Follow the leader
Let’s look at our slick salesman who so effortlessly plied us into making a decision. Why did he succeed? What gives him the edge? People follow leaders, it’s that simple. As a leader he doesn’t think, he knows. He is so confident in his knowing that he emanates power and success, holding himself with poise and posture. A true leader knows the value of their own time, and while they will certainly help those who are eager, and show a desire to learn, will not let people waste their time. In short they “suffer fools poorly”. We in turn aren’t so sure of ourselves. For this reason everyone we talk to about our business slips through our fingers, they seem to always have an excuse, usually time or money if not both. The Leader see’s these excuses for what they are, excuses! He turns them too his advantage and makes them the very reason to get involved, he can pull this off because he is not begging people to get involved, in fact he seems not to care either way. The leader is not afraid to withdraw his offer. He knows who holds the keys to success.
Personal Growth
This doesn’t mean that we are doomed to mediocrity, or that we have made a bad choice. Leaders are made not born. We are all on the road of personal growth whether we know it or not, however to become the leader people want to follow, may require some extra effort. There are many books and courses available for anyone who is willing to learn. Action is the key. Buying a book doesn’t guarantee success, the knowledge will not flow to you via osmosis, and reading doesn’t guarantee success either. To have the best chance you need to invest in yourself, spend the money and read the books and then follow with MASSIVE action! Repeat ad nauseam. You can become a leader. You need to become a leader if you want to succeed in this industry.
Duplication
People haven’t been waiting their whole lives for you to give them the chance to sell shampoo! Not that there is anything inherently wrong with selling shampoo, most people use it after all. What I mean is, while to you the opportunity you have your hands on is so good you can’t understand why everyone isn’t beating down your door wanting to get involved. The fact is that most people haven’t arrived at the place where they are looking for something; Mr. and Mrs. Jones are stuck in a rut, doing the 40 year plan of home to work, to home to work, repeat! Until they are actively looking or at least open to looking, you are pushing the proverbial up hill. Your friends and family generally don’t see you as a leader or someone who could possibly teach them about making money, so pushing your business on them is a waste of time. The answer to this is simple, learn, grow, get a measure of success and they will think differently. So where do you find the right people? Well you could place an ad, hang out at shopping malls or even buy leads, but I wouldn’t recommend any of these things. While you may find some quality leads the chances are you’ll just go through a lot of numbers for very little reward. I would recommend finding a duplicable lead generating system, this way you can find leads almost on autopilot and have the system qualify them for you. This also means when you have a team underneath you, plugging them into the same system is easy and the system does most of the training for you.
Sustainability
Building an MLM or Network Marketing empire is hard work, so the last thing you want to do is work twice as hard each year just to stay where you were the year before. Attrition rates in Network Marketing are huge, there is no denying it. Unfortunately most people just don’t stick at it long enough to see the rewards. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly they don’t sponsor anybody, or have such limited success they just give up. Second, they go broke. So many people end up pouring their life savings into product trying to buy up levels or even just maintain their registration that they give up before they even make a dollar. Many people simply get worn out by all the no’s, after talking to all their friends and family, who all laugh and say “you can’t do it” they give up.
It’s sad. Keeping your team motivated and training them to become leaders is a full time job, but the rewards are great. Build leaders and you will keep growing a strong team year after year.
